Three weeks. That’s how long it had been since everything imploded.

Since Ethan showed up on campus, spotted Zack across the quad, and pulled the pin on a grenade neither of them saw coming.

She hadn’t spoken to Zack since.

Not in person. Not by text. Not even a glance that lasted longer than a heartbeat. He made staying away extremely difficult. Zack appeared everywhere—hallways, lecture halls, the coffee shop she used to love. And to make matters worse, every time she saw him, her body betrayed her.

Her breath caught.

Her skin flushed.

Her heart whispered, please.

But her pride said, don’t.

one day, as she sat in the back of her psych lecture, her eyes drifted to the third row. He was there. Same seat. Same posture. Head tilted just enough for her to see the edge of his jaw, the curve of his neck, the way his fingers tapped against his notebook like he was trying not to think about her.

Her eyes narrowed, and time seemed to have slowed as I analysed the rhythm. She knew that rhythm. He had tapped it…
